Quake damaged historic building of Mountain Inn #Chitral >>

Chitral —The recent earthquake not only took lives of 33 people of Chitral by damaging thousands of houses but it also harmed historical cultural heritages. Mountain Inn is one of these historical buildings constructed in early 60 decades and most veteran and top-level politician stayed here. Haider Ali Shah said that the Inn was constructed by his father Ataleeq Jaafar Ali Shah in 1964, which was the first standardized inn of Chitral. 

He said that Ataleeq Jaafar Ali Shah was founder member of Pakistan Muslim League and that is why most of senior leaders of PML visited here. Khan Abdul Qayum Khan visited Chitral and stayed here in 1970 and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Bacha Khan) also came here after 10 days of his visit along with Ajmal Khattak, Arbab Sikandar Khan Khalil and other senior leaders of ANP. 

In 1971 Ms Nusrat Bhutto and the then prime Minister Benazir Bhutto stayed here while Hayat Muhammad Khan Sherpao also stayed here. Later on, his brother Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao also visited this Mountain Inn. American ambassador visited Chitral and stayed here during Afghan war. This inn consisting on 23 rooms with a green scenery and pleasant look with trees, flowers, roses and fruit of different verities. Haji Habib Hussain Mughal, president of Trade Union, Chitral, Haji Manzoor Qadir, General Secretary of trade union, also expressed their concern and grief over damaging of this historical building.

They said that most of Chitral people using the inn for their public meetings free and they get together here in rain or snowfall because there is no vast place in the area. Sartaj Ahmad Khan, Senior Vice President of Chamber of Commerce and Trade, said that their office also situated inside of this building, which was badly affected due to damaging of this inn by earthquake. 

He said that business of Chitral people already affected after 9/11 but the recent series of flood and earthquake increased their problems. Haider Ali Shah appealed to the government for giving him soft loans for reconstruction of the historical building of Mountain Inn.

#Chitral battered but not beaten by earthquake >>

PESHAWAR / CHITRAL: A village in Chitral was razed to the ground in the October 26 earthquake. Yet the government does not count it among the affected areas owing to fewer casualties there.

Veiled by a huge mountain, the Charun Owir village in Mastuj tehsil of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Chitral district is not visible from the Chitral-Booni Road, even though it is located just 5km from the tehsil headquarters Booni.

The massive temblor that was centred in the Hindu Kush – the 800km mountain range that stretches between central Afghanistan and northern Pakistan – caused deaths and destruction in the two countries and sent shockwaves as far as New Delhi. The US Geological Survey put the quake’s magnitude at 7.5.

According to figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority, last month’s earthquake left around 280 people dead. The casualties were recorded at 232 in K-P alone, of which 32 belonged to Chitral district.

Charun Owir that once boasted beautiful meadows has been transformed by the temblor into something that now resembles the ruins of Mohenjo-daro. Of the 135 houses in the village, 120 have been flattened by the quake.

Chitral-based social worker Nasiruddin told The Express Tribune that the locals were feeling helpless. “They think there will be no future for their children.”

He said non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Focus Humanitarian Assistance, Falah-e-Insaniyat Foundation, Islamic Relief and Alkhidmat Foundation were providing food, water and blankets to the affected people. “The government only provided them 50 tents, 3kg rice and 2kg ghee and oil, but the people need shelter and wood for winter.” The NGOs are making efforts for setting up a shelter house that requires 50 feet of wood, he added.

Elsewhere in Chitral, the quake has left a trail of destruction particuarly in the Warijun Bala village, but the government has only been providing relief packages to the victims of Warijun Bala and Warijun Payen villages.

Some 30 of the 170 houses in Warijun Bala have been destroyed and 11 of the 110 houses in Warijun Payen levelled.

Chitral quake survivors help themselves in race against winter

Sifting through the remains of his belongings, 21-year-old Jehanzeb hit upon his college bag, which felt soaked because of heavy rainfall. But when he opened the bag, he found that his precious books were fine.

He has been skipping college for a fortnight, because his house was destroyed in the massive temblor and he has been living in a tent. “I am the eldest son with many responsibilities. I have been rummaging through the wreckage for food and other items, but whenever my family and I are at work, we have to endure an onslaught of downpour.”

Jehanzeb’s family comprises three male and five female members, including a two-year-old girl. His house was located in Chitral Valley’s Warijun village.

Desperation grows as Pakistan quake victims wait for aid

They were given a tent, four blankets, a Tarpal and two mattresses by Islamic Relief, and another tent by the commandant of the Chitral Scouts. The blankets are not enough for the children, because they do not protect them from the cold. Jehanzeb said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced relief cheques, but they had yet to materialise.

His friends have also been displaced, but since they are taking refuge in tents near the Government Postgraduate College of Commerce, they can also find some protection inside the educational facility.

7.9 کی شدت کے اس زلزلے میں 7000 سے زائد افراد ہلاک ہوگئے اور عماتیں زمین بوس ہوگئی تھیں اور بجلی کے کھمبے اور درخت اکھڑ گئے تھے تقریباً 14000 ہزار سے زائد افراد زخمی ہوگئے تھے۔ اقوام متحدہ کے مطابق  اس زلزلے میں 8 ملین افراد متاثر وہوئے ہیں جن میں 1 لاکھ 26 ہزار حاملہ خواتین تھیں۔

چترال میں خودکشی کے دو حالیہ واقعات میں دو خواتین نے زندگیوں کے چراع خود ہی گل کردیئے۔

چترال(ٹی او سی نیوز)  چترال  میں حال ہی میں خود کشی کے دو واقعات سامنے آئے ہیں تفصیلات کے مطابق دو خواتین نے دریا میں چھلانگ لگاکر اپنی زندگیوں کا خاتمہ کردیا ہے۔  پہلے واقعے میں دنین سے تعلق رکھنے والی خاتون جس کا نام جہاں زار بی بی بتایا جارہا ہے دریا میں کود کر خود کشی کی، جس کی لاش کو نکال کر دفنا دیا گیا۔  اسی طرح کے ایک اور واقعے میں م

داک کی خاتون جس کا نام ناصرہ  اور متوفی تین بچوں کی ماں تھی نے دریا میں چھلانگ لگا کر خودشکی کرلی ہے۔ لاش برآمدکرلی گئی ۔ یہ دونوں خودکشی کے واقعات ہیں  تاہم پولیس سیکشنز 174 اور 157 کریمنل پروسیجر کے تحت تفتیش کر رہی ہے۔  ضرور ت اس امر کی ہے کہ خواتین میں خودکشی کیطرف مائل کرنے والی وجوہات  و محرکات اور اس عمل کو ختم کرنے کے لئے خواتین کو درپیش گھریلو مسائل کو ختم کیا جائے اور خواتین کو باشعور بنانے کے لئے اقدامات کئے جائیں۔

کالج کی طالبہ مبینہ طور پر روم میٹ کے کھانے میں زہر ملاتے پکڑ ی گئی

ایک لڑکی کو ساتھی طالبہ کے کھانے میں زہرملاتے ہوئے کیمرے کی مدد سے پکڑلیا گیا ہے ۔ تفصیلات کے مطابق یونیورسٹی آف ساؤتھ کیرولائنا کی طالب علم کیمرے می مدد سے مبینہ طور ساتھی طالب علم کے کھانے میں زہر ملاتے ہوئے پکڑتی گئ ۔ لڑکی پر الزام ہے کہ اس نے ساتھی کے کھانے میں زہر ملانے کی کوشش کی ہے اور پولیس کا کہنا کہ یہ جرم ثابت ہونے پر اسے جیل بھی ہوسکتی ہے۔ 

پولیس کا کہنا ہے کہ 22 سالہ ہیلی کنگ اس کی روم کی جانب سے فروری میں بنائی جانے والی ویڈیو میں صاف طور پر دیکھا جاسکتا ہے ، مشترکہ اپارٹمنٹ میں جہاں یہ دونوں ساتھ رہ رہی ہیں روم میٹ کے کھانے میں Windex ملارہی تھی۔ 

کنگ کی دو روم میٹس نے نے حکام کو بتایا کہ انہیں کنگ پر شکوک پیدا ہوگئے تھے اس لئے وہ کیمروں میں خفیہ کیمرنے نصب کر رکھے تھے۔ روم میٹس کنگ کو کمرے سے متعدد بار نکالنے کی کوشش بھی کی تاہم وہ نہ مانی ۔ پولیس نے ریکارڈنگ دیکھی جس میں کنگ ریفریجریٹر کھولنے کے بعد ایک ایک کرکے کئی کنٹینرز اٹھارہی ہے ، اور ان میں تھوک رہی ہے۔اس کے بعد وہ ان کھانوں میں ایک گلاس کلینر ڈال رہی ہے۔
